Cross-promotions (ArtConvergence) of the arts and local businesses
Main Art Drift is now promoted on Facebook and this blog. The printed version ican be picked up at grace-gallery 1898 Main Street @ 3rd which is the host of a bold and new exhibit by Wayne Webb, affectionately known as the ‘pic collector’.
Webb’s photomedia artwork tests our comfort zones with his use of digital collages constructed from appropriated pornographic images from Craigslist. Craigslist is a web 2.0 online community which has been serving as a digital commons since 1995. The popularity of Craigslist lies in its open-ended nature, which allows anyone to post anything for free, including internships, housing, personals, close encounters and erotic services.
grace-gallery is an experimental gallery that allows emerging artists the opportunity to push our boundaries; this has helped the art scene on Main Street explode and become avant garde! Rachel Zottenberg, Director of grace-gallery has vision and courage. She is also curator of the Jeff Downer exhibit at the Narrow Artist Lounge behind grace-gallery.
After attending grace-gallery, I recommending heading over to The Artiste where you’ll find numerous open art studios hosting dozens of artists and live musicians this weekend. The Artiste is part of a cluster of community-live-work loft buildings, and has been a center of creativity for the last ten years.
There are Main Art Drift B&W maps available at various locations during the New Forms Festival (NFF): Open Studios (252 E. 1st Avenue), VIVO at (1965 Main Street), gene cafe (2404 Main Street) and grace-gallery (1898 Main Street @ 3rd).
The digital media events at Open Studios over the years has become one of the largest artist-run Centres for Performance in Vancouver. This artist-run studio has held over 100 media art, video, installation and electronic music events over the past three years, alone.
Open Studios is part of New Forms Festival (NFF) 2008. Vancouver’s New Forms Media Society is a non-profit society and media arts organization, founded in 2000, that nurtures and connects local and international arts, science and grassroots communities through the annual New Forms Festival (NFF). Grown from its humble beginnings as a small grassroots media arts festival, NFF is now one of the largest media arts festivals on the West Coast and in Canada as a whole.
As a special thank you for everyone involved in The Drift, here are a few desktop images reproduced from my original painting series, for your enjoyment. The Main Art Drift represents my re-involvement with the arts and sharing with my culturally diverse community on Upper Main Street, in celebration of my leaving the corporate world! Here is the download page where you can click on the thumbnails of my art:
