6th Annual Hot One Inch Action Art at the New W2 Perel Gallery – by Liza J. Lee
On November 7, 2009, the W2 Community Media Arts Society will host the 6th Annual Hot One Inch Action at the new W2 Perel Gallery. There will be 50 artists, 50 buttons and some hot button trading action with Vancouver’s hottest art audience.
New W2 Perel Gallery
W2 Perel Gallery is located at 112 West Hastings in downtown eastside, Vancouver. It is adjacent to W2 Community Media Arts Centre (W2). Opening in January 2010, W2 will be a centre unlike anything in Canada, offering quality arts and cultural opportunities for the Downtown Eastside (DTES) and Vancouver residents through a range of programs, resources and activities. W2 is also at the edge of Chinatown, Vancouver.
Submission Deadline is Friday October 30 at Noon
One Hot One Inch Action submission per artist! It’s free for artists to submit and free to participate in the show if chosen. Origins of Hot One Inch Action
Conceived by Jim Hoehnle and Chris Bentzen in 2004, Hot One Inch Action is the original, one-night only show of art, music and social interaction. The original work of fifty different artists is presented on one-inch buttons and displayed on the gallery wall of the W2 Perel Gallery. Audiences will have the opportunity to buy randomly selected buttons in bags of five. If the bag purchased does not have the desired button, they are invited to trade with other buyers.
Jim Hoehnle is from PEDAL (www.pedalpower.org), a non-profit organization that develops and promotes the use of pedal-powered technology. PEDAL includes employees, board and volunteers supporting Our Community Bikes (OCB), the Bike Depot and PedalPlay.
Chris Bentzen (www.thisisplanb.net) is a freelance graphic designer, artist, button maker, and art event organizer from Vancouver, Canada. An Emily Carr and UBC graduate, he holds Bachelor degrees in Visual Communication Design and Psychology.
W2 Perel Gallery is located near Vancouver main attractions for the arts.
