A new year brings in new direction, Artistrun.org will be posting art events and pictures submitted by other arts organizations and artists to increase community engagement in the arts. Solidarity within the arts is necessary for survival as we enter into a new era of severe funding losses – nearly 92% arts cuts by 2012.

Art Director, Michael Venus says Siouxsie Sioux is one of his favourites and saw her perform live at the Commodore a few years ago. Venus remarks that he’s always been a “goth” at heart. Siouxsie Sioux, vocalist and Steven Severin, bassist, formed Siouxie & the Banshees, the iconic British rock band in 1976.
2010 Tour
The House of Venus retrospective tour consists of 3 different artist disciplines representing the diverse spectrum of the multi media House of Venus collective.
Consisting of a Gallery Exhibit, film screenings and a “Venus Party”. Each stop on the ten-city tour will have a Taylor-made exhibition that works within the chosen city. The tour is based around Michael Venus’ “Icons and Demigods” Gallery Exhibition and also consists of different screenings by the collective’s filmmakers Mark Kenneth Woods and Michael Venus with roaster of short experimental, social, political, comedic and artistic films and videos to program. The tour will also include the infamous “Venus Party”, with a specific theme featuring different House of Venus talents available from around North America.
The intent of the tour is to celebrate the many artistic faucets of The House of Venus by exposing the multi-media body of work from the collective and to bring the spirit of Venus to each city. The tour will be well-documented and local collaborators; artists and venues from all stops of the tour will be included in an upcoming documentary.
Gallery
“ICONS and DEMIGODS”(aka Vanglam)is an ongoing collaborative photo based exhibit project where Michael Venus becomes his influences within the realms of Pop and Sub-Cultures from the past century and millennium. Michael the chameleon uses clever styling, lighting and make-up mixed with his ability to shape shift into his Icon or Demigod and uses his alter ego “Drag Personality” Cotton to channel his female subject matters. Galleries have their pick of over 50 images with different sub groups to choose from to exhibit.
Coffee Table Book
A collector’s book of the entire series and more will be available for sale to raise funds for the tour. With in depth photos and information on the project including quotes and references from the Icons and Demigods themselves about the series.
Venus Party
“Venus” events have changed the landscape of clubland in Vancouver and internationally abroad for over a decade bringing a refreshing energy of nightlife that is out of this world, filled with love, beautiful people of all shapes, sizes, colours and genders celebrating music, beauty and culture together in unity. Miss Cotton and The Venus Girls, Dickey Doo, MKW, Betti Forde and all the other Venus DJ’s and performers bring an unearthly personality and charm to an inviting and fabulous atmosphere. With Michael Venus at the helm specific theme parties will be contrasted in each city featuring the many friends and family within the dynamic circus of Venus. Featuring an international roaster of superstars, DJ’s , bands, and performers of all shapes, genders and sizes available for booking.
Screenings
With works created by Mark Kenneth Woods , Michael Venus and other House of Venus collaborators host cities can choose from a wide array of comedic, musical and artistic shorts, documentaries and features showcasing the many talent of the “House”.
