2010 Future of Digital Art Presented at CODE in Partnership with New Forms Festival

Vancouver, Canada – In lieu of the 2010 Winter Olympics Games in Vancouver, there has been resurgence in cultural awareness as the city prepares itself for the world stage. Spearheading this renaissance is the New Forms Festival (NFF) and the Canadian Olympiad Digital Edition (CODE), who together through a joint partnership will breathe life into everyday images utilizing an eclectic mix of digital technology, interactive installations, the next generation of music, and dynamic art. On February 6, 2010 NFF and CODE will be presenting LA Riots, The Golden Filter, Junior Boys DJ Set and more at the hangar at the Great Northern Way Campus.

The event, which is being hailed as one of the largest and innovative events in the art and digital media world, is unlike any other art show as interactive art will be the highlight. New forms of music and multi-dynamic images will accompany this new and emerging art form. It endeavors to proliferate its message of unique expression to the gazing eyes of the international community and define itself as one of the cultural cornerstones of what it means to be Canadian.

Robert Willis, who is the director of the News Forms Media Society and brain-child behind the event, is looking forward to the impression such unique expressions of art will leave on everyone.

“This night is going to be quite the eye-opener for those from around the world and for Vancouverites as well” states Willis. “I think people have a preconceived idea about what the NFF is comprised of, and justthe realization of vision in these pieces of art including the collaboration between sound, sight, and this incredible physical environment will really give people a better definition of what we are really about – and that is, to make new media art, music, film, technology base-based installation and performance accessible to a wider audience.”

While the size of the event has necessitated the use of the Great Northern Way’s hangar, which in itself is spectacle of art, it by no means does justice to the breadth of human cultural expression throughout history. The dynamic selection of music itself melds with the human expression of dance as audience members groove to music tinged with disco, dance-rock, techno all the genres in-between. Just as the music gives voice to the installations and pieces on display, the pieces themselves speak to the caliber of talent and skill of the digital artists being bred in this city, who themselves are seeing this Olympiad as a great opportunity to showcase the beauty of Canadian culture.

The NFF at CODE night will be an exclamation mark for Canadian music, art, and multi-media,” exclaims Willis. “Nights like ours help local artists express and present their work in a platform that has international credentials as being at the forefront of emerging movements and modes. NFF is a glimpse at where we are going in the not too distant future.”

With talent and art being showcased it seems as if the future has already arrived.

About the New Forms Media Society

New Forms Media Society is a non-profit society and media arts organization founded in 2000 that nurtures and connects local and international arts, science and grassroots communities through the annual New Forms Festival.

By promoting Canadian Artists in collaboration with the international arts and technology world, the NFF facilitates multimodal art works and engages in discussion on their role in our cultural environment. Since its inception, an integral element of the NFF is the recognition of independent and groundbreaking artists; the NFF aims to showcase and increase awareness of these artists and their work within our community and beyond by promoting them within a larger milieu.
