Monika Blichar Bio

Monika Anna Blichar was born in Latina, Italy in July, 1982. After immigrating to Canada in the early 1980’s, the family lived in Red Deer, where they bore a second daughter, and then moved west to B.C. in 1996.

Monika has completed a B.A. in English and French from the University of Victoria in addition to obtaining her teaching credential with the B.C. College of Teachers. Primarily self taught, she has also studied art at Camosun College in Victoria where she learnt various techniques and strategies in creating contemporary pieces. She continues to pursue creative projects and is exploring various professional opportunities in the arts which include body painting, private commissions, group travel and event coordination. Her interests include the humanities, writing, traveling, and being outdoors. Art has played a significant part of Monika’s life and continues to be an expression of her flowing imagination, appreciation for beauty, and a reflection of seeing beyond the obvious. Monika is currently living and working in Vancouver, B.C.

Monika Blichar Artist Statement

Art is an expression for each human to manifest; this is the true beauty of art. Anyone can create art, in fact, most of what we do in life can be considered an art form. Dining, writing, dancing, even advertising all play significant roles in our lives but are all in essence, very different forms of art. In our fast paced lives, bombarded with messages from varying sources, the beauty and magic of life can be easily forgotten, replaced with false impressions, mysterious identities, and perpetuated myths.

As a young child, I often recognized this dilemma and used my spare time to escape from the reality of every day life. I have always tried to capture my visions in my work, which have varied from realistic to abstract reproductions of stills in my mind spurred by literature, dreams, and personal experience. I use art to create milieus where one can escape and contemplate assorted subject matter. Each piece thus far has been different and has taught me about letting go, unleashing creativity, and capturing a moment in the imagination while demanding freedom of mainstream limitations.
